Hot Topic: Biggest Wildfire in California’s History

California has been struggling with wildfires for a while now, but this wildfire known as The Ranch Fire, was recorded to be the biggest blaze is California history. This was caused by the massive heat wave mixed with high winds that occured in the beginning of August. Different factors including weather and vegetation fueled the fire due to the ongoing drought. Thousands of firefighters pitched in to battle this spreading terror. Unfortunately, firefighters were low on resources and unable to completely tame the flames because over a dozen other areas in the state needed help as well. The cost of these damages in 2018 is 773 millions dollars, and the year isn’t even over yet. Multiple homes have been burned to the ground and so many people have to flee their area for their own safety. Sadly, this is nothing new to the state of California. Numerous fires have be igniting all throughout the area, and no one knows where or when the next fire is going to strike.
What are ways that citizens can help the fires from worsening?

I never have heard of a Ranch Fire. I wonder why it is called that.

I think that if once a year people should just water the land that catches on fire -JasonWilliams
ReplyDeletecitizens can be more mindful when partaking in activities that could cause fire to spread such as campfires, setting off fireworks, throwing out cigarette buds, etc.

I think people build houses in bad areas because they think they like the area, the area means something to them, or they just don't know that they are going to build in a bad area

People need to research better about the areas they’re buying houses in. Houses won’t be built in fire zones if no ones buying them -caroline

I believe that we need to be more careful towards where we build houses because there are some areas are made in a certain way to prevent a fire from spreading and then we come in and build a house which adds fuel.-Jeffrey
