Problems with Trash Pickup in St. Louis

Noah Wasserman

In the city of St. Louis, the chances of spotting a trash truck is somewhat rare. Due to this, people are resorting to their back alleys to throw their trash. According to McLemore, she stated that she has to watch out for broken glass as well as nails while driving through the alley-ways. One way the city has dealt with this issue is they ticket you for your illegal dumping. In a newspaper article I have read, “It’s Just Disgusting” displays that people's properties are being trashed and is forcing parents to not allow their children in the backyard. This affects the environment because trash pile-up causes pollution which is bad for the air quality. Also, people’s personal belongings are being destroyed including their cars and backyards.

Multiple trash companies who are paid by the city would be better than just one company hired by the city, especially if that first company is not very reliable.
