A Dangerous Change: Climate Change
By Jeffrey Rathert
Climate change has been making extreme weather even more dangerous than usual in recent times. There have been several recent cases of deadly extreme weather, such as hurricanes in Florida and Texas. Global warming has been becoming more dangerous than in the past, which is seen in recent heat waves and wildfires. Heat waves cause surface temperature and ocean temperature to increase. Snow and ice cover decreases. Sea level rises. Rainfalls are getting heavier as seen with increased occurrences of storms and flooding. One thing that is a common cause here is climate change.
Another example of how climate change affects the world is tsunamis. Tsunamis have been larger in recent years. With global warming, the heat expands the water in the ocean, increasing the storm surge. Climate change has also been able to make floods more dangerous and has allowed them to affect more than 40 million people in India and surrounding countries. A total of 80 wildfires have occurred recently in the western part of the United States. The U.S. Forest Service spent $1.75 million trying to fight the fire. In the future, we need to take necessary steps to be sure our cities and towns are safe from the effects of global warming.
1.) Do you believe that climate change is the cause of these severe storms, heat waves, and wildfires, or could something else be causing this?
2.) What can be done to decrease the effects of extreme weather due to climate change?
3.) What steps could Chesterfield take to protect itself from climate change?

One thing that can be one to decrease the effects of extreme weather due to climate change is to reduce our carbon footprint as a whole and be more eco friendly -jo
ReplyDeleteI think that although there may be other factors to these extreme weather conditions, climate change is the over-arching problem. I think this because these rising temperatures are causing these conditions to worsen over time.

We could build buildings on higher ground in the case of a flood to happen. ~Gray Daitch
ReplyDeleteThey better just be secured and able to withstand water pressure and wind.

i think that if we reduce the carbon footprint, we can reduce the global warming. Berto
ReplyDeletei think it is in correlation with climate change because as the years go on they gradually become more severe and frequent. between the fires and sea level rising this is due to the increase in temperature -caroline
ReplyDeleteWe need to reduce our carbon footprint so that the storms won't become more dangerous than they already are. By reducing our carbon footprint, we can reduce the effects of climate change in our world.-Jeffrey
ReplyDeletechesterfield can people use stuff less like drive less so we can reduce global warming Brandon Mckinley
ReplyDeleteI think that climate change affects how storms are formed and how severe they are.
