In August 2016 residents of Shishmaref Alaska voted to abandon the island. Because houses had already been lost to storms and sea. Other towns in decide to pick up and leave. In Louisiana the U.S. government has agreed to resettle the people but their island has mostly sunk into the Gulf of Mexico.
Would you live on shishmaref alaska???
How would you feel leaving your house due to climate change
Do yall know any other places where people have to leave due to climate change??
I would never live on that island because it is very small, and old fashioned. Not to mention it is very cold!

I would hate to live on that island because it looks like the water is about to cover it. It would be very hard to give up my home, but I would have to move away because the island is shrinking and soon will become flooded.-Jeffrey
ReplyDeleteI would be worried to live there because one storm could be the end. I'd rather move to not live in fear as the island slowly diminishes. ~Gray Daitch
ReplyDeleteI think it will take alot of effort for people to move to a diffrent settlementy. Financial security is one thing, as is moving to a new place being emotionally aand/or mentally stressful.
ReplyDeleteIt would take allot of effort to move a community but I think it would be better off in the long run especially for the environment we don't waste as much engery and supplies rebuild time after time

An island this size wouldn't be very useful or safe because the water could rise at any time during a storm and the entire town could be wiped out.

ReplyDeletepeople had move away because the sea level rising.
ReplyDeleteand its sad because a lot of people had to move away for a reason
DeleteI wouldn't live on a island like this because we'll be surrounded by all water and no where to go.
ReplyDeleteI would not want to live there, Alaska is very expensive and any house located here would be very exposed to bad weather and having to constantly repair things. Which is sad because it is land wasted
