Air Pollution and a Solution By: Brylee Richardson
Pollution of the air from many sources, including wildfires, is unfortunately s constantly growing problem world wide.
According to the World Health Organization, nine out of ten people breathe polluted air, 7 million people dying yearly due to these conditions. Thats 90% of our people!! Although the United States has the best air quality, most undeveloped countries don't have the quality air that we do. A study in 2015 shows that the air quality in India shortened many life expectancies by 3.2 years.
In the past couple of years at the University of Chicago, their Energy Policy Institute created a very useful tool that would show us just how much areas around the world are affected by polluted air and how much more the same areas would benefit if they breathed more quality air. India and China compete for the worst air, but if you take the World Health Organization's guidelines of air quality and apply it to these countries, their life expectancies would grow years. India by 4.3 years and China by 2.9 years. I don't know how much you guys value your life but adding to your lifespan by a couple of years makes a huge difference.

Think about how much better air would be, not only in foreign places but everywhere, if we would cut back on certain things. Although the list is never ending as to how we could better our countries, all we do is pollute our air. We breathe the air that you smoke in. We breathe the air that you create fires in. We breathe all of these particles from factories and gas powered cars and cigarettes, into our very own lungs. Just think about how easy we would all breathe if our air was just a little cleaner.
What would you change in your life to help our country thrive?
Would you cut back on your habits to help, not only yourself but, others?
Look around at the people next to you, are their lives as important to you as your own? Your change could help make a difference.
We need to make sure it doesn't spread
ReplyDeleteOther countries air pollution could be higher because of other countries buying things from them.-Jason Williams
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely a big part in it I think as well. We have lots of demand in the United States for foreign goods, causing their manufacturing rates to increase.

ReplyDeleteAir quality is so vital to our survival, so we should start making wise choices before the problem becomes unsolvable. - Ashley Herman
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%. You realize how valuable our air quality is to living, especially when the numbers are saying that the air quality is horrible and is effecting how long many of us live.
DeleteAir pollution isn't as big of a problem in the US as it is in other countries. A lot of pollution is also related to global warming, so we could solve both these problems if we were more careful with our carbon footprint.

Our carbon footprint does affect a lot and I agree that monitoring it over here would be good, especially because it will prevent our air from getting worse.
DeleteLessen our product demand here in America, will also reduce fossil fuels and air pollution from factories
ReplyDeleteI really dont have anything to change but recycle more Brandoooooo Mckinley
ReplyDeleteIf the air quality is not good that could effect a lot of things because people breath in the air and there could be very nasty poisonous things in it. if china has bad air it could come over here because all air is the same -christa medcalf
ReplyDeleteIn India, about 13.8 million households are in the slum area. So if this many people are burning garbage for warmth then I would understand the air pollution, but only 0.15% of people are homeless in India which is still a lot but I am guessing most of the air pollution is because of the people who live in the slums.

ReplyDeleteWe need to protect the air because it spreads everywhere and effects everyone.
Climate change is partly the cause of this since wildfires are appearing more frequently and have been more severe recently. -Jeffrey
ReplyDeleteThe air we breath affects us and our bodies and we need to make it better and stop it from spreading farther then it already has and affecting more people-Ibee Lodhi
