Saving The Elephants

The companies Resolve and TrailGuard have created an AI system (Alternate Intelligence) that can take pictures of poachers and send a signal to park rangers. The AI system is the size of a thumb nail and is mounted in trees and in the brush. The system uses motion sensors, sounds of animal distress and cameras to sense if there are cars or people who should not be around the wildlife ,specifically elephants. If the sensor picks something up it will take a picture of the person or car and will send it to the park rangers. The rangers will then go to the spot of the sensor to protect the animals from being killed. This has led to the identifications of 20 pictures from different gangs. This is an important new technology because it is predicted that the 100,000 elephants left in Africa will be gone in 10 years.

Do you think the people poaching will find ways around this system?

  1. I think that using the cameras is a good idea. This way people we not be able to stay it is not them. We will now have hard evidence and hopefully be able to stop this problem. Maggie kilcullin

  4. I think it's a really cool idea, but it might be tough to make the cameras and find places to put them. This wouldn't work very well for wild elephants, since they move around a lot and it would be hard tracking them.

  9. I think poachers will always find a way around our systems, after all they know that they're poaching because its illegal. I do believe that taking steps toward inventing many solutions to prevent poaching is a great start to solving an issue that's very common in the economy. I also think that in taking preventive measures, the elephants might repopulate to a healthy number.
