This effect happens when an old star with similar size as the sun grows old and removes layers of gas off itself
The ngc 2022 (the star pictured) is a red giant which is a step of evolution after a sun like star
The yellow orange is the stars core the surrounding clouds of gas is pink and purple
Do you think this star could of been a "sun" for another planet?
How much longer do we think this dying star has left?
So when the sun dies out many planets will die too..do you think that when this star dies out other planet will go out with it?
Its cool how the star used to be the same star that we have as our sun- Connor Ortmann
ReplyDeleteI think this dying star has a couple more hundred years left. -kaylyn
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it would be a sun for another planet because I don't know enough about suns yet. I also don't know about the star death cycle. I think it is a cool picture though! - Grace Briggs
ReplyDeleteI think the star had some planets that used to orbit it. - Riki Tanaka
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking -jo Piechur
Deletei think its very possible that this star was a sun for another planet but where and what is the other planet?-Molly McAuley
ReplyDeleteThis may of possibly been a sun for another planet because it was a red giant, so it was pretty powerful and I doubt it was just out there by itself -Andrew
ReplyDeleteI think think this is a dying star that has maybe a few thousands year left before it completey explodes. grecia
ReplyDeleteAstronomers call these objects planetary nebulas because in the first low-power telescopes of the 1600s and 1700s, they looked a bit like planets. - Shannon Easley
ReplyDeleteIt would've been cool to if there was a possible solar system around this start before it started to die. It could have been possible that one of those planets had life-Haleigh Madi
ReplyDeleteMy hot topic is similar because I talk about exploding stars. -Darren Madison
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how long it has before it goes out and personally I'm not too confident with the subject entirely because thinking about everything around us potentially dying really scares me - Nathaniel Hamilton
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this star was a sun of another galaxy. -Tori Favazza
ReplyDeleteI think this could have been a sun and had other planets orbiting around it at some point. -Kamilah Gamble
ReplyDeleteI agree, with you it also looks really cool.
DeleteI do think that this is a cool example of how our universe develops and eventually dies. I think research like this is fundamental to knowing how and why we exist.
ReplyDeleteMatt Schnaare
It's possible that this dying star was once the center of another solar system -Sawyer L
ReplyDeleteThis is called a planetary nebula -brooke phelan
