Global Warming’s Effect on Polar Bears -Brooke Phelan

Summary: Because of melting ice, due to climate change, polar bears are forced to travel farther to hunt seals (their primary prey). They’re also starting to use more energy than they’re consuming because of this.
Other things: -Satellites show that there’s 770,000 square miles less sea ice than the 1981 to 2010 median. That area is larger than California and Alaska.
Polar bears are forced to swim places instead of walking which burns more energy.
When they start losing muscle, it damages their hunting skills.
Questions: What can we do to help? What effect does this have on us?
We can help by possibly making a food for them that will keep them healthy and easily accessible -jo
ReplyDeleteThe polar bear population is declining at one pole and increasing in the other, I hear. But this photo itself may be a bit misleading, "Perhaps we made a mistake in not telling the full story—that we were looking for a picture that foretold the future and that we didn’t know what had happened to this particular polar bear." - Mittermeier of National Geographic
ReplyDeleteI don't know how we can help the polar bear population that is declining, though. - Grace Briggs
I think we should re locate the polar bears to where they can be provided to more food so that they can survive.
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming is very tragic, we have done some to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses but I believe we can do much more... The fact that these polar bears are having to expend more energy than they consume is such a sad thing to see. We can do better to lessen the effects of global warming. - Mitchell Shabansky
ReplyDeleteI think the only way to help polar bears is to build a place where polar bears can live with enough food create land where polar bears can walk. - Riki Tanaka
ReplyDeleteIt's uncertain but I think we could help by helping them try to find somewhere they can hunt without running around so much to help them survive with less effort - Nathaniel H.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the decline in polar bear population necessarily has a direct effect on us, but it's a warning of the dangers that global warming presents. If there is a way we could relocate the polar bears to a safer area, or have the government put in regulations on CO2 emissions, we can reduce the negative effects of global warming on both the polar bears and us.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the extinction of polar bears will directly harm humans because they are of no use to us. We don't eat them, nor do we use parts of their body for resources, but their extinction would be something tragic and just another reminder of the terribly harmful effects of climate change. -Tori Favazza
ReplyDeleteI dont think this would hard humans but obviously if polar bears die off there would be a major increase is fish and sea lions, which wouldnt harm us they would just pile up everywhere. -kaylyn sharp
ReplyDeleteif polar bears die, there will be a huge hit to the ecosystem/food chain. Obviously sea lions will increase fishes will decrease so the sea lions will go extinct, and this whole drama will happen. - Ansuhka
ReplyDeletePolar bears dying would be detrimental to the ecosystem. we could possibly try to find some way to make a food that we give them to help make sure they are getting all the nutrients and calories they need to survive. Obviously scientists haven't found a viable option yet but polar bears going extinct is something that can be prevented. -Haleigh madi
ReplyDeleteWe could possibly try to help by somehow relocating the polar bear population to a more permanent habitat, where they could adapt and find other prey. -Sawyer L
ReplyDeleteTo help the polar bears we can begin with some kind of polar bear awareness because I'm sure most people aren't aware of this. We can also wake up and start doing things that are more environment friendly like switching over to cost effective electric cars. This is very bad and more or less will be one of the results of global warming as a whole, it is very sad to see that we are the causes for the deterioration of Earth. -Andrew
ReplyDeleteWe can help by doing something about global warming. -Shannon Easley
ReplyDeletewe should try to re locate them before it's to late if all the polar bear die it will be a big impact to the food chain.-Taj Mckinney
ReplyDeleteI believe the governments of the world should take greater responsibility in the climate crisis. -Matt Schnaare
ReplyDeletethis is my own presentation -brooke phelan
