New Earth by Connor Ortmann

Kepler-186f is a new planet that NASA's Kepler mission discovered on July 23, 2015. We all know that our planet Earth is slowing decaying from the effects of human life, and Kepler or new earth could be an answer to the question we all know is there, what happens when the Earth can’t handle us anymore? Kepler-186f resides in the Kepler-186 system, about 500 light years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. Kepler is assumed to be a habitable zone for human life but it doesn’t mean it's completely safe, "Being in the habitable zone does not mean we know this planet is habitable. The temperature on the planet is strongly dependent on what kind of atmosphere the planet has," said Thomas Barclay, a research scientist at the Bay Area Environmental Research Institute at Ames, and co-author of the paper. "Kepler-186f can be thought of as an Earth-cousin rather than an Earth-twin. It has many properties that resemble Earth." Kepler isn’t 100% confirmed to be safe for human life, but it is a good option to research so we know what we are dealing with for when the time comes.
Do you think Kepler could be a healthy planet for humans?
Would you move to Kepler if you had the chance?
Do you think we can reverse the effects humans have done to the earth?

I think we need more information to determine whether Kepler could be a healthy planet for humans. If I had the chance to move, I wouldn't because I think it's imperative to fix the problems here on Earth and prolong its habitability before moving on to another planet.
ReplyDeleteI think it is really cool how we're able to find these planets without ever having to leave earth. But the fact that its so far away from our earth right now is a little disheartening since if we were to send anyone to live there from this generation they wouldn't even get to see it. -Kamilah Gamble

ReplyDeleteI think that we should stay on earth because its conditions are perfect for us. I believe that no Goldilocks planet will ever be able to sustain life. I think that the odds are too low. It's always something like "too far away" to tell or "unstable", etc.
ReplyDeleteThe earth is meant to end one day and if that is happening, then we truly can do nothing to stop it. I don't think this excuses personal responsibility of taking care of earth to our abilities.

I think it is a good idea to move and live in another planet, but we need to make sure that we don't harm the environment. - Riki Tanaka
ReplyDeleteWe just needed stay on Earth instead of ruining another planet -jo
ReplyDeleteI don't Kepler could be a healthy planet for humans because all planets in space are very different from one another and I don't think there's enough information to confirm whether or not humans can live there.
ReplyDeleteI think whether or not Kepler is a healthy planet would all depend on the facts, otherwise there's no way to tell for sure, because while its image still looks similar to Earth that can't be everything to judging if it's healthy or not - Nathaniel H.
ReplyDeleteJust based off of the appearance of Kepler, it does seem habitable. I would not want to go to a completely new an undiscovered planet just because of my fear of the unknown, as well as I'm satisfied with living the rest of my days on Earth. - Mitchell Shabansky
ReplyDeleteI personally would travel to Kepler if I was given the opportunity. I feel like the experience would be fascinating, having to start all over in some other planet. We would have to start civilization all over again, but one worry would be that humanity would pollute the new planet's air with greenhouse gases and by man made chemicals. -Tori Favazza
ReplyDeleteI would not travel to Kepler because I'm happy with what I already have here and am unsure as to what we may find there. Also it would take a lot of time to get there and I don't want to waste precious time that I have here traveling to a planet we don't know what to expect from -Andrew
ReplyDeleteI would move to the new planet to be able to explore and elevate the knowledge of mankind.

Same it sounds super duper cool, and like i will be the first person to like go and investigate. - Anushka
DeleteNo i think at this point weve reached the point of no return, and now were on the path of killing our planet, and it would take the whole entire world to really really make a difference, which is nearly impossible. -kaylyn sharp
ReplyDeleteKepler could be a really great alternative for when we finally destroy earth. But first we need to work with what we have right now because we are just going to ruin the next planet we move to. There is no way for us to save earth. Nature will take its course whether we change our habits or not. Trying to reverse our footprint on earth won't save us, but it will at east give us more time to find an alternative for when earth is no longer habitable. By trying to be environmentally friendly, it gives scientists more time to find a way to get to Kepler in a safe and timely manner. -Haleigh Madi
ReplyDeleteThis new planet could be very important because earth is dying day by day and nobody is really doing anything so the new planet could be a plan b to fall on-Connor Ortmann
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't choose to live on the new planet cause I would probably be dead by the time I got there.

DeleteI think that any discovery is beneficial in regards to our greater understanding.
ReplyDeletewhy would we go to another Earth just to destroy it again -brooke phelan
