Comet from beyond the solar system: C/2019 Q4 by Nathaniel Hamilton
On August 30 of this year an amateur astronomer from Ukraine named Gennady Borisov discovered a relatively large active comet currently known as C/2019 Q4, and after much study it was discovered to have an orbit deviation close to zero in comparison to planets such as Earth, with a velocity of 93,000 mph, well over the typical velocities of objects orbiting around the sun. All this unusual data suggests the comet could be an interstellar object from outside the Solar system.
Questions: Do you think this theory is correct or not?
What could the Comet reveal to us?
How significant could this discovery be?
If the comet really is from outside our solar system, it could mean great things for astronomy. It could help scientists try and figure out more unanswered questions about our galaxy and about space.-Haleigh Madi
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool place to start out as, we could see how old it is, and are there different components that are making it up. - Anushka
Deletei wonder if there is a way we can determine where this comet came from if it didnt come from out solar system. if its an interstellar object then it has obviously gone through a lot to get into our solar system now, so there could be a way to see where exactly it came from. however, we would probably need more data from outside our solar system and im not sure if we have the amount of technology and devices to configure that information.

ReplyDeleteIf the comet is from another solar system, it could help us further understand how things move about within our galaxy. -Sawyer L
ReplyDeleteReally, anything is possible and we cannot know the bounds of space, that is seemingly boundless. If we ever find absolute zero it will open a lot of minds and be a shocking discovery. - Grace Briggs
ReplyDeleteIt amazing how far these comets can travel and where they will end up-Connor Ortmann
ReplyDeleteI think that this is very cool. If we can get a close up of the comet or if it hits Earth still in tact we can learn so much more and see if there is foreign material attached to the comet. If there is it can mean so much more for our space programs as a whole, it gives us hope that there is another way to possibly travel from solar system to solar system. Lead to future space missons. -Andrew
ReplyDeleteCould the comet ever hit Earth? -Shannon Easley
ReplyDeleteI think it would be interesting to see how thinks move from other Galaxies and I feel like this comet will be a help with learning that
ReplyDeleteBeing able to obtain data for said objects could most definitely tell a bigger story about our galaxy.
ReplyDeleteIt is possible that the comet could come in contact with Earth? -brooke phelan
ReplyDeleteI think this discovery could tell us what kinds of elements are present beyond the solar system. - Riki Tanaka
ReplyDeleteThis comet could possibly open up our knowledge to what is out there in other galaxies. -Kaylyn
ReplyDeleteCould this comet give us answers to any questions about interstellar objects or planets? if so how could we receive this information from the comet?
